The Shop Fox W2006 is a great pick if you’re after a fence with an excellent rip capacity. The 50 Inch rip capacity is made possible by 7-Foot Rails and support legs, meaning the extension isn’t going to sag when cutting wide stock.
Our Rating: 9.5/10
Shop Fox W1720 Aluma-Classic Fence with Long Rails
This is a more affordable pick with good rip capacity and universal fit. It’s relatively easy to install and comes with a basic cam lock and measure. Overall, it’ll do the job for the budget conscious workman.

1. Shop Fox W2006 Classic Fence with 7-Foot Rails and Legs
Our Rating: 9.5/10
The Shop Fox W2006 is a fence upgrade for those that want one of the most premium fence systems on the market. The 7-foot rails (with legs) offer an enormous 54” rip capacity to the right which is pretty much unmatched by other brands.
The support legs help to provide stability when cutting and are a feature that other fences don’t often provide. The solid build for the legs, rail and fence itself means that you have little movement or deflection during use and it even comes with a powder-coated finish for added durability.
The cam lock lever and lift-off design are features that we are particularly impressed by with this model. They not only offer stability and an unmovable fence when locked in for accuracy of cuts but also allow for versatility when making quick changes to use the saw’s miter gauge or when using jigs.
We can’t find too many negatives when it comes to this product, though one particular issue would be the fact that having a large 54” capacity is offset slightly by the fact that you can only rip from the right-hand side. Overall it’s not a big issue considering the rip capacity in comparison to other fences.
Large Rip Capacity: A 54” rip capacity to the right is almost unmatched when it comes to fence upgrades.
Ergonomic: The lift-off design is a great feature that makes this fence very versatile when it comes to cross-cutting with a miter gauge. The cam lock lever is also great for minimizing fence movement.
Heavy-Duty: The fence, rails and legs are all sturdy and well-made meaning that it will not only be durable but also stable during use.
Single-Sided: Despite the huge 54” rip capacity to the right, this product doesn’t offer a rip capacity to the left.
Shipping: May be shipped in multiple parts which is very frustrating when they don’t all arrive on the same delivery.
2. Vega U26 Table Saw Fence System
Our Rating: 9.5/10
The Vega U26 is a very highly rated product that professionals and table saw beginners alike both recommend. In fact, there is only one standout issue that really prevents us from giving this full marks which we’ll cover shortly.
This is a universal fence made to fit most 10” saws and is made from steel construction making this an incredibly durable fence (though it’s slightly heavier than some of the lightweight aluminum models).
What we feel separates this from other models is the micro-adjustments that you can make to ensure the most accurate and precise cut possible. A 26” rip capacity to the right and 8” to the left Is nothing special but will be suitable for most woodworking needs.
The main drawback of this product is surprisingly the quality control when it comes to shipment.
There are numerous complaints about the product being poorly packaged which leads to dents, scratches or even damaged parts by the time it reaches the customer. For such a highly rated product we are surprised that the manufacturers haven’t fully fixed this glaring issue yet!
Overall, the solid structure, durability and precision (thanks in part to the micro-adjustment feature) mean that the Vega U26 is definitely a standout product when it comes to fence upgrades for your table saw.
Micro Adjustments: The micro-adjustment feature is incredibly useful for making precise and accurate cuts.
Durability: The steel construction allows for an incredibly sturdy and long-lasting fence that won’t move once it’s positioned and set.
Top Seller: This is one of the best selling fence upgrades on the market so you can be confident that it will provide value for money.
Quality Control: By far the biggest issue with this model is that you play a game of roulette with shipping. It wouldn’t be a surprise if some parts come scratched or dented due to poor packaging.
Instruction: The assembly instructions could definitely be made clearer and simplified.
3. Shop Fox W1410 Fence with Standard Rails
Our Rating: 9/10
The Shop Fox W1410 fence is a more affordable and budget option rail system that doesn’t compromise on build quality, functionality and durability. In our opinion, it just edges out the Delta T3 fence because it’s actually made to be a universal model fitting onto most brand name saws.
An important point to note is that this fence will only fit saws up to a 27” depth, the factory drilled holes while claiming to be universal are also quite limited so you need to be aware that you will likely have to drill additional holes in order to mount it to specific tables.
The fence runs on quite a unique ball bearing system which we found moves very smoothly for making adjustments.
It also has a left and right positioning knob on both sides for left or right-handed use though we do wish that the handle would fold away or protrude a little less as it’s very easy to accidentally walk into when maneuvering around the table.
Overall we’d say that the W1410 is a smooth and stable fence system that comes in at a very affordable price for those looking for a replacement or upgrade to their current fence.
Price: A very affordable price for a solid and durable fence system.
Smooth Rail System: The ball bearing system allows for smooth and accurate adjustments between cuts.
Highly Rated: The affordable price might have a strong influence here but we’ve found that this model, in general, is very highly rated by most users.
Table Size: This model only fits table saws up to 27” depth and therefore it won’t fit on larger cabinet or contractor table saws.
Short Rip Capacity: A 25” rip capacity would be an insult to call it short but for larger cuts or contractor work, you’ll need to look for a model that supports larger cuts.
4. Vega PRO 50 Table Saw Fence System
Our Rating: 9/10
The Vega PRO 50 has many of the great features that we liked in the Vega U26 fence system however the PRO 50 comes with an upgraded rip capacity of 50” to the right and 10” to the left.
Before we look at some more of the key features, the only reason we’ve not given this the same rating as the U26 is that it’s priced higher, therefore if you want the larger rip capacity then it’s well worth the money but if not, the U26 is a more affordable option.
The micro-adjustment feature on this model is all the more impressive when you combine it with the large rip capacity meaning that you not only have the versatility to cut large stock with this fence but can also do so to an incredibly accurate degree.
This universal fence has been designed to mount to a large range of existing table saw models which means it’s unlikely to need any drilling to install like some of the other fences that we’ve reviewed (though this of course will depend on your current table saw model).
If you are looking for precision, ease of use and a large rip capacity then we certainly can’t look past the Vega PRO 50 as a standout purchase.
Large Rip Capacity: A 50” rip capacity to the right as well as 10” to the left allows for a versatile range of cuts.
Fully Adjustable: The capability of using micro-adjustments at a larger rip capacity is definitely a standout feature with this fence.
Highly Rated: Much like the U26 model by Vega, this fence is highly rated and another top seller which makes it hard to argue against its obvious quality and value for money.
Price: This is a slightly higher priced fence however you are paying for the build quality and large rip capacity.
Instructions: The assembly instructions have definitely caused issues for some people though there are a few videos available online to help with this.
5. Shop Fox W1720 Aluma-Classic Fence with Long Rails
Our Rating: 8.5/10
Shop Fox makes another appearance on our list with the W1720 fence system. A large 50” rip capacity is the standout feature on this model coming in at a relatively budget price for a rip capacity of this size.
The long 79” rails on this model mean that it will fit most table saws with ease, even if that means drilling in some additional holes in order to mount it securely. Once secured though it will often prove to be a significant upgrade on most fence models, particularly any outdated factory default fence and rail systems.
The heavy-duty cam locking lever is great for added stability during cuts and once it’s locked in place, it won’t be moving again until it’s unlocked! The aluminum and steel construction also makes this a solid and durable rail for accurate cuts.
An issue we have come across frequently however is the shipment for this item. It will be shipped in two parts (the fence in one part and rail/legs in another) though many are finding that it often comes missing one part which usually involves a few weeks delay and customer service calls to rectify.
Price: We’d definitely consider this to be a budget-priced model for such a large rip capacity, though it more than justifies its price through build quality and is in no way cheaply made.
Universal Fit: The 79” long rails make it easy to fit most branded (or unbranded) table saws with minimal modifications.
Durability: The heavy-duty locking lever and aluminum/steel construction make for a sturdy and durable fence.
Shipment: As this item ships in two pieces, many have found they had mixups during delivery and only received one part.
6. Delta T3 Fence System
Our Rating: 8.5/10
The Delta T3 fence system is a solid and affordable fence upgrade ideally for those that can’t afford a Biesemeyer fence system.
Unfortunately, this is a very specific fence system that can only be used with Delta table saws and further to that, it’s specifically for 27” tables. The possibility is, of course, there to make modifications to fit this model by drilling additional holes to fit a different model table.
What we do like about this product, however, is how accurate and square the adjustments are with the use of a three-point locking system. The fence is incredibly accurate when measured against a tape measure and the twin hairline pointers allow you to easily adjust it in line and parallel with the blade.
The 30” rip capacity to the right is well complemented by a 16” rip capacity to the left of the saw meaning that you can rip from both sides of the saw.
While this is a limited model, we’ve found that most people benefit from purchasing this and attaching it to a different branded saw that they already own by making a few modifications.
That’s enough to convince us that it must be a solid and highly rated fence system to go through the additional effort of fitting it to a non-Delta model.
Price: This is a very affordable table saw fence upgrade that would be great for a hobbyist or professional use.
Accuracy: The three-point locking system and built-in measure are incredibly accurate and mean that you only need to use a manual tape measure as a precautionary double-check.
Convenience: The ability to easily rip from both sides of the saw make this a versatile and convenient fence system.
Limited Table Compatibility: This fence will only attach to a 27” depth table saw and therefore you are limited with your compatibility (though you could make manual adjustments and holes to fit a different size).
Packaging: Many have had issues with packaging and the shipped item arriving damaged.
7. Shop Fox W1716 Aluma-Classic Fence with Standard Rails
Our Rating: 8/10
The shop fox W1716 fence system has a large 57” rail meaning that it can comfortably fit on most table saws without the need for additional modifications or rear locking mechanisms.
The aluminum and steel construction allows for a solid and durable fence that is designed to last for years. We know this should be expected as a standard but there are definitely some models out there that are cheap, flimsy and prone to breaking so this is a fence that’s value for money.
The heavy-duty locking system makes it easy to make adjustments one-handed while ensuring that the fence stays in place during a cut so that you don’t lose accuracy or end up with kickback due to misalignment.
An error that we did find occurring frequently is that the rails are labeled incorrectly in some of the instruction manuals (these might have recently been amended). It labels the front rail as 57” and the rear rail as 48” whereas the manufacturer claims that it should be reversed and the 57” rail is for the rear.
This would, therefore, need clarification with the manufacturer before attempting to install it.
Universal: The 57” rails with widely spaced adjustment points means this will fit easily on most table saws.
Locks Tight: The heavy-duty locking system allows for no movement during a cut and you can be confident of the accuracy with this fence.
Lacks Versatility: A 30” rip capacity to the right is great but we’d have liked to see the option to also rip to the left.
Assembly Mistake: The instructions can be labeled incorrectly for the rail with them mixing up the front and back rail sizes.
What to Look for in a Table Saw Fence
Some table saws come with very specific table saw fence sizing. Others come with the regular universal fit sizing. For saws with very specific sizing (such as the Delta range), you can’t just retrofit a new fence onto the existing infrastructure. You’ll need to buy a replacement part from the table saw brand that you require.
But there’s a workaround. Many people get universal fit replacement fences and bolt them onto their table saw. You’ll need some handyman skills here. We recommend checking the sizing of your existing fence and seeing if you can get a replacement part first. If you can’t (or you’re just not satisfied with the quality), a replacement universal fit fence that you can retrofit onto your table saw is a good idea. Most of the fences on this list have the universal fit sizing.
Rip capacity is one of the most important factors. Rip capacity is the distance from the table saw’s blade to the fence. A fence that can extend out further can cut larger stock – simple. So, a rip capacity of 20″ would allow you to cut a 40″ piece of stock in half. But with some fences, stability is compromised the further you extend out the fence. It may sag or (at times) become loose as you extend out the fence. A good quality fence has both good rip capacity and consistent strength.
Keep in mind that rip capacity can be measured on the left and right, but most saws only have a fence on one side, as you usually only need one guide.
Table saw fences slide along a guide rail, then are locked in place for when you are cutting. The main issue you come across with locking capacity is that when you lock the fence, sometimes it shifts. This can be a pain when you need super precise cuts. This is where the Vega U26 Table Saw Fence System comes in as an excellent option as you can make great micro adjustments to ensure the stock is cut perfectly first time.
We’ve referred to this feature regularly above, because each feature boils down to this: “How stable is the fence?” Too often, a fence wobbles (especially on hybrid table saws that have extendable fences). This is especially the case when the fence is extended for larger rip capacity. Unfortunately many stock standard fences that come with your table saw have terribly poor fences. Something we look out for is minimal “wobble” in the fence, the ability to do micro adjustments, and (for longer extensions) support legs to prevent sag.
While most table saws come with stock standard fences, there are a few reasons you might want to upgrade. The main one is to achieve greater stability: many stock fences are sub-par and unstable, leading to poorer quality work. But we also like the idea of getting a new fence to increase rip capacity. In our opinion the best table saw fences are the Shop Fox W2006 and the Vega U26, both of which offer excellent stability and rip capacity.
We hope this review of table saw fences has been helpful!
