1. Gorilla Carts GOR6PS Heavy-Duty Dump Cart

Quick Review: The Gorilla GOR6PS is a multi-purpose, heavy-duty cart that we think could provide exceptional value for years of use.

Our Rating: 9.5/10

This cart essentially has a 3-in-1 capability meaning it provides unrivaled versatility of use across multiple product categories. It can function as a cart, wheelbarrow replacement and even as a trailer that can be towed around. (They promote it as 2 – in – 1 … but we’d use it as a wheelbarrow as well personally).

best garden cartChris Says: “The Gorilla GOR6PS is one of the most highly rated carts on the market and this is down to its great value as well as its multi-purpose functionality.”

Ease of maneuverability is another key feature of this product. 4 sturdy, 13” tires with a zero-point turning function mean that this cart moves comfortably over any terrain and the load will always remain stable and secure.

The cart has a durable and low maintenance body on a steel frame for longevity and ease of use whilst a 1200lb weight limit is heavy duty and will suit most general or jobsite uses. The quick-release dump feature is also innovative and a 500lb dump capacity makes for a versatile and easy to use cart.

It’s also worth pointing out that assembly is quick and easy (<1 hour) and there is even an instructional assembly video that we’ve added below for reference. Overall we feel this is one of the best garden carts on the market that can satisfy a variety of uses and purposes.

Pros

Cons

Trailer Functionality: The 3-in-1 functionality means you are getting multiple product uses for a single competitive price.

Quick Release Dump: The patented quick-release dump is quick and seamless to use whilst also having a 500lb capacity.

Heavy-Duty: A 1200lb weight capacity, rust-free base and solid 4-wheel base mean that this cart can satisfy most general and even some jobsite use.

Flat Tires: Many people have issues with the tires going flat too frequently after repeated use and while it’s not a major issue, it can definitely become inconvenient.

2. TMZ All Terrain Folding Wagon with Canopy

Quick Review: We feel the TMZ all-terrain folding wagon is a great easily collapsible and storable cart that is also functional to use.

Our Rating: 8.5/10

The TMZ is a very versatile and convenient cart that is geared towards public space use including parks and beaches.

The 4” wheels are not the largest or smoothest that we’ve seen. However, a combination of telescoping handle and an adjustable handle make this a very ergonomic cart in terms of moving it around comfortably and with ease.

Chris Says: “I really like that this is a multi-purpose cart for parents, gardeners, picnics, or anything in between. It’s got a lot of space, but my one worry is sharp tools might pierce the fabric.”

This cart folds away to an incredibly impressive size with dimensions of 31.5” (H) x 24” (W) x 8.7” (D) which is the result of a telescoping handle and collapsible rear wheels. These features make this cart incredibly easy to transport and store and is one of the most convenient carts available.

The canopy and removable basket are great additions for use in public areas and both are removable in case users want to use this cart with minimal features for enhanced portability.

This cart may not be the best for heavy-duty use due to its fabric and design; however, we feel the large amount of space and versatility for use in the garden and in public spaces like the beach make this a versatile choice.

Pros

Cons

Additional Storage: The removable basket makes it easier to transport smaller items or debris for more efficient use.

Foldable: The collapsible dimensions mean you can fold this cart up for easy transportation or storage.

Design: This isn’t something we’d usually place an emphasis on however the camo design is a nice feature that gives this product some character.

Materials: While this model will support a large variety of items, its fabric design might not be preferable to some people as compared to other more solid materials like metal.

3. Karmas Steerable Garden Stool Cart

Quick Review: We feel this is a heavy-duty and easy to maneuver cart that can be a great asset with lawn care jobs. Its storage is smaller than many, though.

Our Rating: 8.5/10

If you’re a regular reader, you might recognize this model, as we rated it very highly in our review of the best garden scooters with seats.

We feel the Karmas steerable garden stool cart is a great quality product that comes highly rated and could be good for providing additional support when treating the lawn.

The seat is height adjustable and can rotate through a full 360 degrees meaning that you can work in a more comfortable position without putting unnecessary strain on the back or knees.

A weight capacity of 300lbs is more than enough to suit most users and the sturdy basket allows for convenient placement of tools or for clearing up debris/de-weeding.

Chris Says: “The appealing thing about this model is the seat. It’s great for mobility for elderly people or someone out in the garden for hours on end. But, there’s the small issue of minimal storage space.”

This stool cart features a low center of gravity design that combines well with the 10” tires and easy to steer handle for smooth movement around the lawn, garage or even around the house.

Admittedly, there are carts that offer a larger storage space when in use, however, these often don’t have the comfortable and ergonomic seating that this product provides so there is a small compromise with this product.

We’ve also heard that the assembly instructions are not the best with this cart but overall, it’s a solid product at a very affordable price in our opinion.

Pros

Cons

Ergonomic: The rotating and adjustable seat means that you can always work in the position of your choice.

Sturdy: The solid frame has a large weight capacity for added durability however it’s also easy to move around while in use.

Price: This is a very affordable and well priced product considering the solid design and durability that the frame construction offers.

Storage: There is less storage in this model than many competitors.

Assembly Instruction: We’ve heard the assembly instructions are not the best and don’t give a great guide to assembly or part sizes and required assembly tools. Someone without much tool/DIY experience may struggle with the assembly.

4. AMES 1123047100 Buddy Lawn and Garden Cart

Quick Review: We think the Ames 1123047100 cart is an appealing gardening accessory and has some great multi-functional features.

Our Rating: 8/10

We think the Ames lawn buddy cart is a great accessory for gardening and lawn care enthusiasts and it’s especially well-suited to elderly users. This multifunctional cart has a range of features that help to reduce fatigue and physical exertion. The lid is the key reason for this as it folds out to operate as a handle (the 4 wheels on a steel frame also allow for ease of movement) and can also double up as a seat for use during pruning or planting work.

Chris Says: “I’m impressed by the design on this model which maximizes storage space, makes great use of the lid (which turns into a seat), and has nice large wheels.”

The storage bin itself has a 2 cubic foot storage capacity which is comfortable enough to store and move all necessary gardening tools for a few hours of work.

Overall, this product is a small, convenient and easy to use cart that is a good accessory in our opinion for gardening work. You’ll find that it comes highly rated with the majority of users echoing the fact that it’s great for gardening in comfort without straining your back or knees.

Pros

Cons

Multi-Functional: The storage lid acts as both a handle and a seat for a variety of uses in a compact and lightweight model.

Comfortable: The option to use this cart as a seat with a rolling function means that many users could go about their gardening work in comfort and with reduced physical fatigue.

Convenience: All the necessary gardening tools can be stored in a small and lightweight frame that doesn’t compromise on storage thanks to the 2 cubic foot capacity.

Cheap Parts: There are certain points on this product (lid/handle hinge and wheel fixtures) that are very easy to break if misused.

Official Weight Capacity: The weight capacity is said to be 400lbs but we can’t find official confirmation of this.

5. AMES 2463675 Easy Roller Jr. Poly Lawn and Garden Cart

Quick Review: The Ames 2463675 easy roller is a mid-priced cart that offers a large storage capacity in a lightweight and stable frame.

Our Rating: 8/10

The Ames easy roller cart is a lightweight and sturdy cart that is well suited to larger gardening work/jobs.

While we think that this is a solid and stable cart, the fact that it has 2 wheels means that it’s not as easy to maneuver as some 4 wheeled models in our opinion. We feel a 4-wheel cart with a pivoting axle is much easier to control.

A storage bin of 3 cubic feet is both deep enough to support large tools whilst not being so big that it’s difficult to maneuver during use.

The recessed tool tray is an additional feature that is great for time-efficient work and something we would expect to see in more carts. It also features a side clip for a rake, shovel or broom storage. This leads us to believe this is an impressive design.

While this is a garden cart by design, we feel that it can also work well as a wheelbarrow alternative that’s not only easier to control when moving but also has a deep storage capacity to prevent overflow (typical with most wheelbarrows).

This product is very much a mid-range model that covers all of the basic requirements well, it’s sturdy, stable and most importantly easy to use but it is missing some features that other more premium models on this list have.

Pros

Cons

Tool Tray: The recessed tool tray is a great addition for making this cart much more efficient during use.

Deep Storage Bin: The deep storage bin with a 3 cubic foot capacity is great for storing and moving larger or awkward stock and items.

Wheelbarrow Alternative: This model comes across as a solid wheelbarrow alternative at an affordable price.

Maneuverability: The 2-wheel design means that this product does not offer the same level of stability during use compared to 4 wheeled models in our opinion. This makes it feel like a wheelbarrow in a sense.

6. Landworks 2103Q044A Heavy Duty Lawn/Garden Utility Wagon

Quick Review: This cart is capable of moving a variety of large wood stock by utilizing collapsable side panels.

Our Rating: 8/10

The Landworks 2103Q044A appears designed for people who need a solid, durable and no-frills gardening cart.

The key feature with this product is the collapsible sides that allow this cart to also function as a flat bed. This makes it easy to move large or awkwardly shaped wood stock and also makes it more convenient to store when it’s not in use.

The solid steel frame is incredibly durable and powder coated to be rust free for increased longevity. It’s heavy-duty in terms of a solid build structure and has an impressive 400lb weight capacity however we’d also note that there are other models with a higher weight capacity on the market.

Chris Says: “The minute I saw this model I loved it. It looks like the old ‘holy roller’ cart I had as a kid, which I can tell you was as sturdy as anything!”

The 4 pneumatic tires with an easy to pivot handle make this cart good for all terrains and it appears the padded handle with a responsive pivoting axle allows for comfortable and controlled handling.

This product is quite basic by design and lacks a seat or cover; however, it’s a solid cart that can easily and comfortably allow users to move a wide variety of materials around the garden.

Pros

Cons

Removable Sides: The removable sides allow for the movement of large and awkwardly sized items.

Easy Control: The padded handle, swivel axle and 4 pneumatic tires allow for easy control on a range of terrains.

Durable: A powder-coated frame made from solid steel gives a durable and long-lasting feel.

Basic Features: The product is quite basic and lacks additional features like seats or covers.

Difficult Assembly: A combination of difficult to follow assembly instructions and ‘roughly’ machined parts made the assembly process long and frustrating for some online reviewers.

7. Pure Garden 75-MJ2011 20″ Plastic Garden Storage Cart

Quick Review: We like that this is a convenient storage cart that allows for tool organization as well as storage. We feel this cart can help keep your gardening tools organized and make gardening a more time-efficient task.

Our Rating: 7/10

The Pure Garden 75-MJ2011 is a storage cart that is cleverly designed to be compact and portable whilst still providing a good garden storage solution.

The storage and organization capabilities are the key selling point with this model. A removable tool storage tray means you can easily organize any gardening tools you need without it impacting too much on the overall storage capacity.

The compact design has a clip-lock lid that allows this cart to also function as a garden scooter. The weight limit can support around 200 – 220 lbs and makes it a great product to reduce any bending, squatting or kneeling for comfortable gardening work.

Chris Says: “This may not be the cheapest cart on the market but we feel it’s a user friendly option that could be a great gardening accessory.”

A very light weight of only 6lbs means that this is significantly lighter than the heavier, steel constructed carts on the market allowing for a more portable and easy to store garden (or general use) cart.

It’s worth pointing out that while it’s compact, easy to move and great for organization / storage, the actual build quality is not the highest and many claim that the quality has reduced in recent years in what many feel is an effort to reduce manufacturing costs.

Pros

Cons

Organization: The removable tool storage tray is good for organizing gardening tools without impacting on the storage capacity.

Dual-Purpose: The clip-lock lid allows this cart to also function as a garden scooter to reduce any bending or kneeling during use.

Lightweight: A weight of only 6lbs means that this is significantly lighter and more portable than a solid steel variant.

Manufacturing Quality: This cart has been on the market for 15 – 20 years now however some claim that the material is cheaper and less durable than the original models.

Price: Considering some of the other products in this category with similar features, this model’s price is a little higher than we’d like.

What we Look for in the Best Garden Cart

Storage

The main purpose of a garden cart is, of course, storage. The cart should be able to hold all of your tools plus whatever else you might be working with, such as some plants you might be planting or even the weeds you’re removing to place in compost. Storage really varies across all the garden carts on the market today. Some even have special tool drawers which can be really useful for organizing everything in your storage. But some have very little storage, especially those whose main purpose is the seat rather than storage section.

Seat

Some models are more focused on providing an ergonomic seat rather than a cart. These are particularly popular among the “best garden carts for seniors” category. If you’re interested in primarily a seated model, you can also get one that’s designed as an electronic scooter. For those, check out our article on the best garden scooters. In this list, the main one that’s seat first is the Karmas Steerable Garden Stool. Others, though, don’t sacrifice storage space for seats quite as much, and we’re big fans of those. One example is the Pure Garden model (7 on this list) which repurposes the lid for a seat, which works really well.

Wheels

There are two options here, really: two wheeled or four wheeled. The four wheeled models are more common and can be great for ease of use. They feel more stable and more usable in our opinion. But the two wheel models – which mimic wheelbarrows – may be really useful to some people as well. At the end of the day, this is up for personal preference.

The second way we can look at the wheels is around durability and size of the wheels. In general, we tend to feel that larger wheels can be better for all terrain purposes.

Durability

One of the key things we look out for when it comes to durability is the type of material for the storage section of the cart. Some are fabric, others are plastic, and others are metal. We do really like the metal models (so long as they’re welded properly) because they are really sturdy usually. Plastic seems to be good at times, too, although we’re aware they will likely become worn by the weather over time and become more brittle.

Final Thoughts

It’s not easy to find the best garden cart for your circumstances. This review of the best garden carts has provided some examples and our ratings of them for our personal circumstances. Personally, we’re quite bullish on the Gorilla Carts model listed at the top of this review for ourselves. Of course, none of this constitutes advice – professional or otherwise – for you or your circumstances, so do your own due diligence and consult a professional.

We hope this general information has been useful though as you go about searching for the best garden cart for yourself!

Cheers,
Simon & Chris
