1. Craftsman CMCCSP20M1 V20 Pole Saw
Our Rating: 9.5/10
A 4.0 Amp, 20V battery gives the Craftsman V20 crafts saw a very impressive run time. This is the standout feature with this product. It can provide up to 325 cuts (tested on 2” pressure treated pine) on a full charge and should be easy enough to satisfy most homeowners’ requirements.
The saw is powerful enough to work on branches up to 6” in diameter and reviewers note is very easy to control with versatile use thanks to the angled head and branch hook for increased cutting visibility at all times.
The 14ft overhead reach on this pole saw is towards the top end when it comes to extension length meaning users should be easily able to tackle most branches without the need for a ladder. Just keep in mind that, as some users have said, this reach takes into account the user’s height as well, the pole itself is around 10ft in length.
This is a pole saw that should cause minimal issues during use and we feel it should be a reliable and long-lasting pole saw for frequent use.
Efficient Cutting: An angled head, branch hook and 14ft reach all allow for efficient cutting with a wide range of branches and trees.
Long Run Time: The 4.0 Amp battery allows for an impressive run time that will provide up to 325 cuts (tested on 2” pine) on a single charge.
Top Heavy: The motor head is top heavy and might be difficult for some people to control when using the extension pole.
2. Ryobi ONE+ 8 in. 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Pole Saw
Our Rating: 9/10
We feel the Ryobi ONE+ cordless pole saw is both a reliable and competitively priced product that has an extensive range of features that most homeowners will really appreciate.
The 8” bar and chain is not the largest on the market however it provides more than enough power to tackle most small-medium sized jobs (designed for cutting branches up to 6” in diameter).
The angled head allows for clear visibility during use and the auto oiling system also allows for efficient working without the need to manually keep your chain lubricated.
The battery is the key feature with this model. The ONE+ battery system means that this battery is compatible with a huge range of Ryobi tools and is fast charging at only 30 – 60 minutes allowing for multiple uses in a single day.
The battery power is also fade-free for consistent cutting power during use, the only issue to note is that the 1.3 Amp, 18V battery has a limited run time (between 30 – 60 minutes though this can vary) so it can only be used for short durations if you don’t have a spare battery to swap in.
Highly Rated: In our opinion this pole saw not only provides excellent value but comes highly rated by most users/customers.
Compatibility: The Ryobi ONE+ range allows for battery compatibility with other power tools in their range.
Quick Recharge: The battery fully recharges in 30 – 60 minutes allowing for multiple uses of this tool within a single day.
Warranty: An extended 3-year warranty as standard is excellent for providing peace of mind and long term value for money with this pole saw.
Run Time: The battery may fully recharge quickly however you don’t get a long run time between each full charge which is a significant compromise for fast charging.
3. Greenworks 8.3′ 24V Cordless Pole Saw
Our Rating: 9/10
When it comes to cordless pole saws you typically need to sacrifice an element of power compared with gas or corded pole saws. The Greenworks 8.3” 24V model, however, is an impressively powerful cordless pole saw with impressive run time.
The 2.0 Amp, 24V battery has a long lasting run time that’s 30% longer than the average 18 Amp equivalent (which is quite common in this category). This results in a good run time compared to some other saws, but still not enough for a full day of landscaping.
This saw is heavy-duty by design. A weight of 15lbs creates a solid and durable feel during use, especially on those hard to cut branches where you need some force/weight behind the bar. However, we still feel this model requires a fair bit of upper body strength.
A 4-year warranty on the tool and 2-year warranty on the battery is great in our opinion, whilst the auto oiling system for the chain means that this tool is easy to maintain to keep it working optimally even after extended use.
It doesn’t have too many fancy features we must admit but overall this is a solid cordless pole saw at a very affordable price point.
Lastly, we like that this model folds away quickly and easily for storage.
Powerful: The 24V, 2.0 Amp pole saw is one of the most powerful in class and will easily handle most jobsite contracting work.
Run Time: The 2.0 Amp battery has a run time that is 30% longer than the standard 18 Amp cordless pole saws.
Warranty: We feel the 4-year warranty on tools and 2-year warranty on battery packs is great for extensive use.
Reach: A max overhead reach of 11ft is quite short compared to the market standard of 13ft-15ft.
Heavy: A weight of 15lbs means this saw is definitely not the lightest, which might negatively affect control for some users.
4. Black+Decker LPP120 20V Max Pole Saw
Our Rating: 8.5/10
The Black + Decker LPP120 comes across as an easy to use garden tool for the average beginner or homeowner while it’s operational. This is one of the easiest to control pole saws on the market thanks to its lightweight fiberglass frame. The product weighs in at around 10lbs and is easy to maneuver for comfortable and controlled use.
Installation is fast and easy with the quick tightening collars meaning you can quickly set up and take apart this tool for ease of storage and convenience.
The long lasting battery allows for up to 100 cuts of lightweight work (1-½” pine) or 30 – 40 cuts when used on larger branches. The 8” bar and chain is sufficient for cutting up to 6” diameter hardwoods and a 14ft reach is more than enough to cover most homeowners’ needs.
However, more intermittent maintenance will be required for this model than some competitors because it doesn’t have a self-oiling chain or tool free chain tensioning. Overall you will need to dedicate more time to manual maintenance with this tool.
As weekend yard workers, we feel this tool will easily tackle tree and lawn maintenance tasks, and the long battery life and lightweight features make it ideal for us as gardening enthusiasts.
Lightweight: Weighing around 10lbs, this is an incredibly lightweight pole saw for comfortable and controlled use.
Long Battery Life: The powerful 20V battery allows a long lasting run time from 30 – 100 cuts depending on the size of the wood you are working on.
Manual Oiling: The chain will need to be oiled manually on this saw which is time consuming and easy to forget about during use which can lead to frequent chain slips.
Manual Maintenance: As well as manually oiling the chain you will also need to keep the chain tight without the use of a tool-free tensioning system.
5. Worx WG323 Cordless 10-inch Pole Saw/Chainsaw
Our Rating: 8.5/10
We think the Worx WG323 is a powerful 2-in-1 pole saw that can also operate as a handheld chainsaw for versatility of use.
This is one of the most ergonomic pole saws on the market in our opinion. A 10” bar and chain with an auto oiling system and tool-free chain tensioning all combine to give a powerful saw that should run smoothly and efficiently during continuous use.
We also think the lightweight frame is great for ease of handling and control. The saw head without the extension pole weighs in at only 6.2lbs and when using the full extension, the max weight is still only around 10lbs for control when used overhead.
The key feature with this model is of course the fact that it can operate as a handheld chainsaw as well as a fully extended pole saw. This is great for versatility of use and you’ll be able to comfortably cut branches at height as well as tackling any low hanging branches or maintenance jobs for a great all round tool.
2-in-1 Functionality: The handle position close to the bar and chain means this can operate as a standard chainsaw without the pole extension.
Lightweight: With a saw weight of only 6.2lbs, this is one of the lightest and easiest to control pole saws on the market.
Ergonomic: Tool-free chain tensioning, auto oiling system and a 2-in-1 saw capacity allows for an incredibly ergonomic tool that most professionals will appreciate.
Frequent Chain Maintenance: In order to keep the chain from slipping off the bar you’ll need to keep adjusting the chain tension in between cuts which can be quite laborious and time-consuming.
6. SENIX CSPX5-M-0 10 Inch 58V Cordless Pole Saw
Our Rating: 8/10
The Senix CSPX5-M-0 is a powerful, mid range cordless pole saw that we feel will do a good job for larger jobs that require a longer run time.
This 58V cordless pole saw is powerful and can produce a long run time for extended periods of use. It’s good for a full day’s work with however unfortunately the battery and power packs are sold separately (you can purchase a bundle option).
The angled head allows users to cut branches at a variety of angles for added versatility and cutting visibility whilst a 14ft overhead reach is ideal for use in most backyards.
The 10” bar and chain should easily handle small and medium sized branches and the automatic oiling system means gardeners can work continuously without the chain failing. The built-in oil window allows users to easily monitor the oil level.
Tool-free chain tensioning system is a great efficiency and time saver in our opinion.
Powerful: This 58V model with a brushless motor is designed to be as powerful as a gas powered pole saw.
Angled Head: The angled head allows for increased cutting flexibility and visibility.
Long Run Time: A long battery run time allows for continuous and prolonged use which is well supplemented by the auto oiling system.
Additional Items Needed: The battery and battery charging pack are both sold separately and will therefore raise the initial cost of this product if you don’t currently have these parts.
7. Litheli 40V Cordless Pole Saw
Our Rating: 8/10
We have some mixed views when it comes to the Litherli 40V cordless pole saw. On the surface, it has features that should be industry leading. However, some features are more hype than they are functional in our opinion.
What we do like is the 10” bar and chain with 40V, 2.5 Amp battery. This combination allows for a powerful enough saw for maintenance work to be combined with a long lasting run time (around 30 – 60 minutes of continuous use).
The adjustable telescoping pole is very simple to use with a simple lever-locking adjuster and the head can also be adjusted into 4 positions for quick and easy adjustments during a cut.
It has an industry leading warranty period of 5 years for the too and 3 years for the battery and charger however our only issue with this is that customer support can be quite slow to respond or resolve any issue.
Alongside an ergonomic and safety led design, we feel the overall tool is not the most solid in terms of build quality and reviewers often note that some of the parts and adjustable features are quite ‘flimsy’ to use so we wouldn’t consider this to be a heavy-duty model.
If however, we needed a versatile and easy to adjust pole saw for some branch maintenance we would be okay with using this product.
Great Warranty: A 5-year tool warranty and 3-year battery and charger warranty is one of the best on the market for continued aftercare and support from the manufacturer.Adjustable: The adjustment lock on the extension pole and 4-position angled head function allows for fast adjustments and speed of work.
Ergonomic Design: A full length trigger with safety lock, single entry point extension locking system and quick adjustment triggers make for an incredibly ergonomic tool.
Battery: Quite a few people have had issues with a defective battery which is quite surprising considering the 40V battery is one of the products’ key selling points.
What to Look for in the Best Cordless Pole Saw
Battery Run Time and Recharge Time
The biggest bottleneck when using a cordless pole saw is how long you can operate it before recharging. You’ll be surprised how low the run times can be – you’re looking at somewhere between 30 and 60 minutes for the regular run time of a cordless pole saw. The best cordless pole saws have a run time of closer to 60 minutes.
To increase run time, consider getting a pole saw with a stronger battery that’ll be able to both sustain power and time much more effectively.
Recharge time is also a huge concern. You’ll have to go off for a few hours and do another job while your pole saw recharges, and then you can get back to your projects once the battery is recharged. The two options are to get a spare battery to swap them out, or ensure you get a model with a fast-charging battery.
Pole Length (Reach)
The big thing to really be aware of when it comes to pole length is differentiating between “length” and “reach”. Often the brands will promote 15 foot reach. That doesn’t mean the pole itself is 15 feet. The ‘reach’ usually assumes it’s a 6 foot tall person holding the pole saw at about shoulder height. So look out for pole length to get a true understanding of what you’re getting. Expect anywhere from 6 to 12 feet in pole length.
Weight vs Power
The upside of cordless pole saws is they don’ weight nearly as much as gas powered pole saws. Gas models have a pretty hefty motor on them, plus have to carry the weight of the gas. By contrast, a cordless model carries the weight of a battery – which is usually lighter – and doesn’t have the burden of a combustion motor built-in. So, you can expect to take off a few pounds compared to a gas model.
But on the flip side, cordless models tend to be a little less powerful. This is changing as technology improves, but many professionals still prefer gas models for their extra power.
It’s not easy to find the right cordless pole saw for your circumstances. This review of the best cordless pole saws has provided some examples and our ratings of them for our personal circumstances. Personally, we’re quite bullish on the Craftsman CMCCSP20M1 V20 for ourselves. Of course, none of this constitutes advice – professional or otherwise – for you or your circumstances, so do your own due diligence and consult a professional.
We hope this general information has been useful though as you go about searching for the best cordless pole saw!
