1. SawStop PCS31230-TGP252 Industrial Cabinet Saw
Our Rating: 9.5/10
The Sawstop PCS31230-TGP252 is an industrial-sized cabinet saw that you are purchasing as a lifetime investment. The reason for this is not only the high quality of the saw (we’ll cover that shortly) but also the significantly reduced risk of injury.
This is the result of Sawstop’s patented safety technology through their emergency stop brake in this model. When skin (or other non-wood materials) come into contact with the blade during operation the emergency brake stops and drops the table saw’s blade in less than 5 milliseconds.
An injury could mean loss of earnings, costly medical bills and trauma so we feel that the price is very reasonable when looked at from this viewpoint!
This model is also one of the most powerful in the range using a single-phase power outlet to supply a powerful 230V 3HP motor. The build quality of this model makes it suitable for the avid hobbyist woodworker and professional workshop owner alike.
A huge 52” rip capacity is supported by the T-glide fence system which is made from a solid and durable steel construction ensuring that once locked into the ideal position it won’t move. This allows for extra accuracy on each and every cut.
The fence system itself is smooth in adjustments and the magnified indicator lens makes it very easy to make micro-adjustments for precise cuts.
Safety Feature: The cost of injury from a saw could be more than a lost body part, it could also mean the loss of earnings. The safety feature alone makes this saw value for money over a lifetime.
Highly Rated: This cabinet table saw is one of the highest-rated saws we’ve seen which is a clear demonstration of the quality and value for money that it provides.
Industrial Mobile Base: While this saw is designed to stay in a workshop, the heavy-duty mobile base (upgraded purchase) gives great flexibility to reorganize your workshop with ease.
Instructions: The color-coded instructions for assembly are incredibly easy to follow and makes assembly a simple task (unlike with some brands we’ve come across!).
Vendor: While Sawstop and the saw itself are unquestionably great quality, a few people experience issues when arranging delivery through a third party vendors.
2. Powermatic PM1000 1791001K Table Saw
Our Rating: 9.5/10
For many years, Powermatic has been a leader in the cabinet table saw category and the PM100 is an industry-leading product, so much so that you’ll struggle to find any poor reviews for this product!
The interesting fact about this cabinet table saw is that it has a 1.75HP motor but many claim it feels like it has the power of many 3HP models by other brands.
It’s also nice that it is wired to run on only 115V. This means that homes and workshops can easily use this table saw without needing to rewire their workshop.
The Powermatic uses a modular blade guard with independent side leaves and an all in one blade mechanism system that keeps the guard and riving knife connected to the blade meaning that everything is perfectly aligned and consistent during angle and height adjustments.
The sturdy miter gauge pivots 60 degrees and also has a level locking adjustable fence that can be adjusted to work with a variety of wood sizes for optimal safety during cuts. It may not have the same level of safety as the Sawstop but it’s definitely a close second when it comes to safety.
The precision T-style Accu-fence is both rigid and accurate whilst allowing for a 50” rip capacity. This is a solid model and we’re torn between this model and Sawstop when it comes to the best cabinet table saw.
Low Voltage: 115V wiring allows for more versatility for most home workshops (no specialty adapters or wiring needed to support a single or 3-phase power supply).
Blade Mechanism: The blade guard, riving knife and splitter are all connected to the blade’s mechanism meaning that everything is perfectly aligned without the need for manual adjustments.
Safety: The adjustable miter gauge allows for a range of cuts that never compromises the user’s safety.
Power: The low voltage is ideal for universal use in most workshops however it’s the weakest motor that we’ve reviewed at 1.75HP (most are 3HP and upwards in this price range).
3. Grizzly Industrial G0652-10″ 5 HP 3-Phase Heavy-Duty Cabinet Table Saw
Our Rating: 9/10
Grizzly has a range of cabinet table saws on the market but the G0652 is by far the most powerful and versatile of their range. It’s designed to be heavy-duty with a cast-iron constructed table, solid camlock fence and tool-free accessory change.
The 52” rip capacity combined with the dual extension tables means you can comfortably and effortlessly cut large stock with complete ease.
A 5HP, 440V motor with 3 phase amp means that this table is one of the most powerful on the market when it comes to cabinet table saws. The key consideration is of course that you’ll need to facilitate the 3 phase amp in your workshop and you’ll also need technical installation for the full power model.
The dust collection on the G0652 is another key feature that demonstrates its heavy-duty appeal. An enclosed blade and internal 4” dust collection port provide a dual dust collection system that is optimized for efficiency and simplicity.
The digital angle readout meter is great for quickly making precise adjustments to the blade angle for cross-cuts and the cast iron bevel adjustments for blade height and angle are both smooth and accurate.
Dual Extension Table: The right-angled dual extension tables (with additional shelving space) gives an ideal work area that covers all your cutting requirements in a compact surface area.
Powerful: The 5HP, 440V motor is the most powerful of the Grizzly table saw range and one of the most powerful on this list.
Technical Support: The support team at Grizzly are industry professionals and can easily help with any technical inquiries that you might have.
Professional Installation: The 440V operation option requires additional parts and installation by Grizzly technicians.
Branding: Despite having a wide range of cabinet table saws and a strong technical support team, Grizzly is still a relatively small/unknown brand in the table saw market.
4. Shop Fox W1819 3 HP 10-Inch Table Saw with Riving Knife
Our Rating: 8.5/10
When you think about cabinet table saws, it’s easy to think of large tools that take up a lot of space, the Grizzly G0652 model above, for example, is great for those that have a large workshop but not ideal for those short on space.
The Shop Fox W1819 is a model that looks to cater to those with a smaller workshop and has dimensions of only 40” (H) x 45” (W) x 62” (D) meaning you can get the power of a cabinet saw without having to opt for a smaller portable table saw.
A 29-½” rip capacity is definitely on the shorter side when it comes to table saws and most portable table saws even have a rip capacity of 28”-32”, though it’s this smaller rip capacity that gives the smaller footprint.
Dispute the rip capacity being similar to a portable table saw that is the only similarity you’ll find. A solid cast iron construction to the trunnions, table and wings means this cabinet saw is heavy-duty in its build.
A powerful 3HP motor with triple belt drive allows for ease of cutting most hardwoods and the miter fence with a flip stop easily allows for a range of cuts with the same width.
Shop Fox is also known for its accurate and sturdy fences right out of the box and this model offers a solid and accurate camlock fence that comes highly reviewed.
** This model is also available with a 49” rip capacity if you like the features but need a larger model – you can toggle to the larger model when on the Amazon product page linked on the orange button above.
Size: A compact cabinet saw (with optional mobile base) is ideal for woodworkers that are short on workshop space.
Miter Fence: The solid camlock fence is complemented by a T-slot miter fence with a flip stop for accurate and solid cross-cuts.
Reputation: Shop Fox are well known for providing heavy-duty tools that have longevity in mind for both professional and hobby woodworkers.
Rip Capacity: In order to provide a more compact cabinet table saw the rip capacity has been reduced to 29” to accommodate this.
Assembly: Some people find this difficult to assemble and make adjustments on their own which is worth keeping in mind.
5. Jet 708674PK XACTASAW Deluxe 3HP, 1Ph, 30″ Rip Fence
Our Rating: 8.5/10
The Deluxe Xactasaw from Jet is a reliable, sturdy, value for money and highly rated cabinet saw that is an excellent model if you are looking to purchase your first cabinet table saw.
Ideal for professional and hobbyist woodworkers alike, the Xactasaw is a cabinet table saw that focuses on an ergonomic design. The ease of use allows for safe and accurate cuts with a variety of large, hardwoods.
The heavy-duty cast-iron trunnion is not only solid but adjusts smoothly and is a key feature in this model. The 10” blade is mounted on a dual mechanism that also houses a riving knife that will always be perfectly aligned with the blade to minimize kickback.
Most cabinet saws do not actually make much use of the cabinet, Jet has added hangers onto the external portion of the cabinet for the miter gauge and rip fence and have also added an internal storage compartment that is closed off from the rest of the cabinet for additional accessory storage.
The independent blade guard side leaves are another ergonomic feature that means when making thin cuts, only one side of the guard will rise up minimizing dust in the work area without compromising on the stability of the cut. They can also be raised above the guard to prevent the need for accessory changes when you need a clear view of the wood during a cut.
The push button (patent pending) arbor lock system works in conjunction with the tool-free riving knife and blade change system for maximum efficiency and speed when it comes to adjustments.
Storage: Onboarding storage for accessories is great for keeping everything in a single place in your workshop for efficiency and workshop management.
Warranty: A 5-year warranty is great for both peace of mind when making an expensive purchase on a cabinet saw but also for assurance that the manufacturer is confident in their product!
Ergonomic: Onboard storage, independent blade guards, push-button arbor lock system and tool-free riving knife/blade changes all allow for efficient and quick cuts.
Rip Capacity: A 30” rip capacity is more than enough to cater to most large cuts however some might want a larger rip capacity for their workshop.
6. Jet 725005K ProShop II 115V 52″ Rip Stamped Steel
Our Rating: 8.5/10
The second Jet model that we are reviewing is the 725005K cabinet table saw that comes in with an incredibly competitive and affordable price.
A 52” steel stamped rip capacity allows for a range of large cuts to be made with a variety of woods meaning that it’s suitable for professional contractors despite the low-end price.
A light table weight of 286lbs (light for a cabinet saw) means that this table can easily be maneuvered around a workshop with two people and the compact design is not compromised by a smaller rip capacity like some other models.
The 115V power supply is the only real downside with this cabinet saw as it doesn’t offer the same power as the other cabinet saws that we’ve reviewed (though make no mistake, it can still tackle a variety of woods with ease).
This is certainly a no-frills cabinet table saw that does well covering all of the basic needs (large rip capacity, tool-free accessory changes and a solid and rigid ProShop fence) but don’t expect any high-end, unique features.
Price: This is an incredibly affordable cabinet table saw and is a great entry-level model for a first-time cabinet saw.
Warranty: As with most Shop Fox products, a 5-year warranty is great for giving peace of mind with high-end purchases.
Compact Design: The low footprint design offers the features of a high-end cabinet saw in a compact design ideal for contractors short on workshop space.
Power: The 115V motor doesn’t offer the same power as the higher horsepower models on this list, Powermatic for example manages to still create a powerful tool utilizing the 115V wiring.
No Frills: This model covers all the basics that you’d need in a cabinet table saw but doesn’t have any unique features of note.
7. Shop Fox W1811 10-Inch 5 HP Sliding Table Saw
Our Rating: 8/10
The Shop Fox W1811 cabinet table saw is quite a unique saw on this list and performs as a sliding or traditional table for both feeding of large cuts and also through cuts.
The cross-cut fence with a flip stop is the first unique feature of this model. It features a scale and multiple flip stops allowing for a range of accurate and precise crosscutting.
The next standout feature is that this model has a scoring blade to support the standard 10” blade. The 5HP motor allows for the main blade to cut at speeds of 4000RPM whilst the scoring blade can cut at speeds of 8000RPM. This scoring blade helps to prevent splitting and tearout for consistently smooth cuts.
Besides these unique features, a crosscut capacity of 63” is huge and the cast iron build is both durable and heavy-duty whilst backed by a 2-year warranty.
While this cabinet saw has some truly unique features, the price is the only thing that is holding us back from giving this a higher rating. It is definitely a high-end model with unique features but we feel it might be out of many people’s price range.
Crosscut Fence: The crosscut fence with a 63” capacity is definitely a unique feature that hobbyist woodworkers, in particular, will enjoy.
Scoring Blade: Not only does the scoring blade help prevent splitting and tearout but it can also be lowered when not required to keep it sharp and functional.
Multi-function: The W1811 can be used as a traditional table saw for ripping or as a sliding table to feed larger cuts.
Price: This cabinet saw is more expensive than some of the others that we’ve reviewed so we feel it won’t be a great fit for everyone’s budget.
What to Look for in a Cabinet Table Saw
This is the defining feature of a cabinet table saw as opposed to, say, a contractor, jobsite or hybrid table saw. Cabinet table saws are designed to be the most powerful and durable table saws on the market. Expect your cabinet table saw to boast a heavy duty 3 to 5 horsepower motor under the hood. Compare this to your regular contractor table saw which is likely to be in the 1.5 to 3 HP range.
Blade cutting speeds are also likely to far exceed those of the lighter and more portable models. Expect blade speeds in the 5000 – 8000 RPM range, while your hybrid and contractor saws will usually have blade speeds down around the 3000 – 4000 RPM range.
There’s no two ways around this one. Your cabinet table saw is going to be heavy. Very heavy.
Cabinet saws are not designed to be rolled around the shop. You’re not going to be taking them to the jobsite. They’re set and forget, really. So you can expect a cabinet saw to weight 500 Lbs plus, while a portable jobsite table saw model will weight as little as 50 Lbs (but also note many jobsite saws don’t come with a table saw stand).
Rip Capacity and Fence
Personally, we want a very solid rip capacity for a cabinet saw. A nice 50″ rip capacity is always great to have. But there’s also the matter of making sure the table saw fence is firm and solid along the guide rail. There’s nothing worse than a fence that had wiggle room as it messes with the accuracy of your cuts. Further, if the extension sags as the fence extends out too far, it causes accuracy issues. Fortunately, most cabinet saws have legs under the table extension to offset issues of sag.
One thing to keep in mind is that the location you place the saw will also significantly impact (or hinder) the size of the stock you’ll be able to feed through your saw. Be aware of the surrounds and ensure you place it in a location where you’ve got a lot of room to feed long stock through and out the other side.
A solid miter gauge is hard to find – an in particular, many brands provide pretty stock standard miter gauges when they sell you a table saw. You can find decent ones, like on the Powermatic model in this list, but you could also consider getting an aftermarket miter gauge if you’re not satisfied. We’d probably recommend just getting the stock one that comes on your cabinet table saw and upgrading if you’re not satisfied.
Blade size is primarily an issue for you if you’re cutting thicker boards. A 12 inch table saw blade is likely to be able to handle stock with 4.5″ to 5″ thickness, while a 10 inch table saw blade will be likely to handle stock with 3.5″ to 4″ thickness. These figures are general and will vary from saw to saw.
If you’re in a jurisdiction where dado blades are legal and you’d like to utilize them, you’ll also want an arbor long enough to hold a full 1-inch dado blade stack.
Splitter and Riving Knife
All good table saws come with either a splitter or riving knife. But for our centerpiece cabinet table saw, we would prefer a riving knife. The difference is that a splitter doesn’t move with the table trunnion, meaning the distance between the blade and the splitter changes as you raise and lower the blade. Overall, this tends not to cause issues all the time but can occasionally cause friction and even kickback if the wood squeezes onto the splitter and catches. By contrast, a riving knife is mounted to the table trunnion so it will maintain an equal distance from the blade at all times, helping to facilitate a smooth cut.
All good cabinet table saws come with a large red emergency stop button. But the SawStop has revolutionized table saws with its technology that sees the blade stop within miliseconds of contact with human skin. This can be a lifesaver, so if you’re looking for a table saw in a place where beginners, apprentices or students will be working with the saws, this might be a good option for you, assuming the technology works 100% of the time – we’re not willing to test it!
A cabinet table saw is a massive investment. It’s often the centerpiece of your shop and will be with you for a decade or more. So, it’s not a decision to be taken lightly. We prefer one with a solid rip capacity, strong heavy duty motor, and excellent safety features. For us, the SawStop model ticked all those boxes.
All the best on your hunt for the best cabinet table saw.
